Date of execution: 01 January 2018- 31 December 2019
The aim of the project is to facilitate the approach of the museum (e.g. cost of transportation) for the local schools of the region of Baja whose students visit the museum regularly. Moreover, the project allows creating museum pedagogy and outdoor pedagogy programmes which meets the needs of these local schools.
The chosen topics of the project are based on the buildings, objects of art and the accumulated knowledge of the museum. These topics are the following: archeoastronomy, archaeology, fishing heritage of the Danube, ethnic minorities of Baja, the history, art history and contemporary art of Baja and the Northern Bácska region.
The colleagues of Türr István Museum find the chances for individual work, groupwork and pair work extremely important during the museum pedagogy sessions especially as they have experienced that frontal work is the most determinant form of public education. Elocution and vocabulary expansion are partial aims of the museum pedagogy sessions with the help of the following technics: explanation through questions, making students to act, putting thoughts into words alone. Even though the museum is equipped with the latest interactive electronic devices, the teachers who work there highlight the importance of personal, face-to-face interactions and experiences. The students are supported individually and as a group as well: they receive all the needed objects, personal attention and help for their mini research.
The target audience of this two year-long project are the students of Szent László Primary School, Szeremle- Dunafalva Primary School and the Vocational Training Centre of Baja based on the cooperation contracts. The aim of the project is to create a supporting environment for learning in which the students can gain experience and in the future, they would visit these places happily again. The museum is a perfect place for learning: the building is beautiful and enchanting, the learning environment is safe and well equipped and the teachers are professionals in different educational fields. Acceptance and the state of being open-minded are the key factors of the learning environment where lexical knowledge is not strictly tested and evaluated. The sessions of the project are based on the age group of the target audience and the teachers use a wide range of methods during them. The museum intends to create and form a community outside the classroom in which students can work together without problems and they become aware of their cultural backgrounds.
